I am dedicating 2025 the year of being nice. Let’s face it we are constantly being encouraged to fear and hate each other. But the reality is when I meet most people, they are nice. Why I haven’t gotten into a fist fight in years or yelled at someone.
This year I’ll do my best to buy a cup of coffee or a sandwich for a stranger. I’ll be making cookies and cake and share some of it, (not all of it) with my neighbors. I’m also going to try really hard not to judge the homeless. As some of you know, I was homeless for about six months back when I was twenty. It wasn’t fun and it was quite embarrassing. I was lucky enough to get off the streets and I know a few folks who’ve been in the same situation and aren’t as lucky.
There are not a lot of people who actually want to be on the streets, trust me. There are a lot of issues with being homeless and “Just get a job” is not going to fix the problem. Good luck getting work when you sleep in a tent or your car or if you have mental problems.
So join up with me and do your best to make 2025 a year of giving, giving a smile, a friendly word, a wave, a hug and maybe a slice of food here and there.
